Florida Election Results?

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Why the question mark? Since about 7:15 PM, I have been watching http://enight.dos.state.fl.us and comparing the Secretary of State’s results with what is reported on TV news (CNN and Fox News).

Initially, the TV news numbers were lower by a couple thousand for each of the leading candidates. Now at 8:45 PM the numbers reported on TV news are about 80,000 higher for each leading candidate (Romney and McCain) than the Secretary of State is reporting.

Election NIght Results at 20:50You will not that the above shows Romney in the lead, but none of the networks show Romney in the lead.

At 9:04 PM, Fox News reported that they are not calling the race, partly because of discrepancies between the numbers reported by the Associated Press and the Secretary of State (the numbers above).

I suspect the Associated Press is double counting some numbers.

Actually, I found out around 10PM that the Associated Press was counting votes from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties before those votes were reported to the Secretary of State’s office.  Does that surprise you?  Remember the 2000 election?  These were the counties that had all the problems with the hanging chads and votes allegedly counted for the wrong candidates.

Thoughts on John McCain’s latest TV ad

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Sacrifice is only sacrifice if you make a conscious decision to do something. When John McCain bailed out of a Navy jet, the decision was to survive and not to sacrifice anything.

Getting shot down is not a heroic act. It is the result of either bad luck or someone screwing up.  John McCain was in the unfortunate position of having to pay for someone else’s mistake.

Yes, John McCain refused to be sent home before people who had been prisoner longer than him, even though he was more severely injured. Yes, he was honorable 30+ years ago, but what has he done lately?

Four years ago, he called veterans “dishonest and dishonorable” because they questioned John Kerry’s treasonous post-Vietnam actions.

He crusaded against the prison for terrorists in Guantanamo. Rather than give terrorists, according to the Geneva Conventions, a hearing in front of 3 officers and a firing squad, he argued to give them Constitutional rights.

He was the ringleader of the Gang of 14, which legitimized the filibustering of judicial nominees, in violation of the Constitution.

He co-sponsored the abominable “McCain-Kennedy” bill to give illegal immigrants forgiveness and Social Security. He even voted for the Specter amendment, which could have conferred consulting rights on Mexico concerning the erection of a southern border fence.

He claims to be pro-life, but opposes reversal of Roe vs. Wade and sided with anti-political speech zealots in filing an amicus brief against Wisconsin Right to Life.

No, I am not voting for John McCain on Tuesday!

Who are the front runners?

Monday, January 21st, 2008

The media “experts” seem to be hyping their favorites. Here are the current standings:

Voting as of January 19th

It is interesting that the media is counting Edwards out, but he is more in the running than Giuliani, who is putting all his eggs in his Florida basket.

ABC News’ Match-o-Matic

As you can see there is no perfect candidate.  Each candidate has a few issues that I don’t agree with and I don’t always agree with myself as to which issues are the most important.  I think that in the next couple of weeks we will know which has the best chance of winning.

Thoughts on Rudy Giuliani

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Yes, the fight against terrorists is important.

Yes, the economy is important.

“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?”
Mark 8:36 (New American Standard Bible)

Rudy is one of those politicians who thinks abortion is wrong, but should be legal.  Doesn’t that sound a little hypocritical?

Over 6 million American children have died from abortion since 9/11/2001. God is most gracious in withholding judgment on America waiting for us to repent.  Overturning Roe v. Wade has been in the Republican platform since 1980, but when are they going to do something about it?

If Rudy Giuliani gets the Republican nomination, a lot of Pro-life Republicans will be reminded that Abraham Lincoln led an abolitionist 3rd party to victory.

Thoughts on Clinton, Obama, and Edwards

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Scroll down and look at how the Democratic Candidates scored when I played “The Candidate Match Game”. I am not sure they could have scored any lower, and they are all pretty much the same.

They are all on the wrong side of all the important issues. I guess that explains why the Democratic primary races are basically beauty contests focusing on personalities rather than any substantive issues other than those their party base support.

Thoughts on Mitt Romney

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

I am not sure what to make of Mitt Romney.

He seems to have all the right answers. I don’t have a problem with him changing to the right position on abortion. That sure beats changing to the wrong position.

The Candidate Match Game

Check out The Candidate Match Game

Keeping the weights of all issues in the middle, I got:

1. Fred Thompson

2. Mitt Romney

3. Duncan Hunter

Thoughts on Duncan Hunter

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

I haven’t heard anything about Duncan Hunter that I don’t like.  Unfortunately, that is probably because he is so far down in the polls that he doesn’t get asked any [tough or easy] questions.

With 1 delegate from Wyoming, he is ahead of some candidates, but not by much.

Thoughts on Fred Thompson

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

He was the Senate floor manager for McCain-Feingold (See thoughts on John McCain).

Fred Thompson will not get my vote unless he repudiates McCain-Feingold.
